These awesome wild Hawaii Kona goats occupy the wild areas of the Kona coast. Theses goats are not native to Hawaii but brought to the Big Island By Captain Cook during the late 1700s. These goats compete for water and nourishment with native species. In Volcano National Park sharpshooters have been employed in an attempt to eliminate the goats in the National Park, so far unsuccessfully.
Feral goats are also hunted on the Big Island during winter months. Goat hunts are organized by by local guide services.
Commonly seen on Kona beaches are Green Sea Turtles, which are protected by law.
